works for March show at Earth & Vine Baker City, Oregon

This is one of my favorite views in the Baker Valley. We are looking up Pine Creek at Rock Creek Butte. I love hay fields and this one works nicely to lead you into the mid-ground of the painting. I am always challenged when portraying the Elkhorn Mountains. Expressing their mass and presence is just not easily done..I can attest to in many earlier paintings! I am happy with this piece and will be showing it in Baker City the month of March. It is also available at my 'dailypaintworks.com' site.

This is a chalk pastel painting on sanded pastel paper. 9.5x 14 inches (unframed)

July 2013 PAINTING LIKE A MAD WOMAN!!

A new piece or a July show at Crossroads Arts Center in Baker City,Oregon.
I am using pastels on a new surface called 'Touch' from MiTientes. Nice tooth and holds the pigment well.
This piece is titled 'Princeton Sunset'.
I think I'll have about 14 painting in this show. I am fortunate enough to be exhibiting with my friends and fellow artists- Alicia Andrews, David Thompson, Linda Davies Gage and Pat Siegner.

Title- Summer Poplars

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

                                                  title- towards diamond
I liked this scene because it was a beautiful winter afternoon, the clouds were lovely and the sun was popping out randomly across the landscape. Cattle scattered out and peacefully grazing , in February no less, is always calming.    Clouds, space, light.
This painting is the first of several in which I am using a toned, sanded pastel paper . I have always used rag mat board with some texture, or 'tooth'. I had started sanding my boards somewhat to add to the surface the would hold the pigment. The sanding helped but I was still not sold. I am learning that pastelists work on all sorts of surfaces and one artist ,whom I very much admire, creates a ground with acrylic medium and pumice. Baahaahaaahaaa! We'll just have to see where this leads!
This piece is pastel pigment on toned , sand coated pastel paper.  8" x 12".
